I. HIGHLIGHTS/KEY PRIORITIES
On 11 January 2013 in Libreville, three agreements were signed as a result of the peace talks.
Following approval by the UN in New York, an advance security team returned to Bangui on 10 January 2013. The team monitors the security situation and the consequences of the conflict in the country.
On 13 January, following a favourable security risk assessment, 30 core critical staff from the UN (including three WFP staff) and three NGOs returned to Bangui. UNHAS resumed its normal activities on 14 January 2013 and is again operational. This new Special Operation (1 Jan – 31 Dec 2013) is ever more important during the current crisis. However, it has not received funding thus far; US$7.64 million is urgently required for this operation.
A rapid assessment is currently taking place in the conflict affected areas within the framework of the RRM. Furthermore, WFP monitors market prices as much as possible in Bangui and other major cities.
WFP has been monitoring the situation in neighbouring countries with regards to potential displacement from CAR. Reports received so far have shown that no massive population movements were registered.
