Butembo, 15 february 2013 (Caritasdev.cd) : Caritas Butembo-Beni has put an end this Friday 15, 2013 to the distribution of non-food item(NFI) to 9,420 persons, or 1,570 households of Lubero territory. Beneficiaries were especially displaced persons and hosting-family of vulnerable,due to several armed-group stand off operating in this region. This emergency Aid is a fruit of solidarity of Caritas Internationalis members of confederation in response to the emergency plea (EA 37/2012) launched since November 28, 2012
This concerned mainly the contribution from CORDAID (caritas of netherlands), but also from TROCAIRE, Caritas Japan, Caritas Asutria, Caritas Italiana, Caritas Norway and Secours Catholique France. This contribution of caritas network has made possible this humanitarian Aid to over 5,172 households, or 31,032 persons gathered as follow: 1,370 households in the Diocese of Butembo-Beni, 2.182 families already served from 24 to 26 december 2012 in the Diocese of Goma and 1,620 households to benefit from this Aid soon.
Therefore, funds recieved from Développement and Paix(Caritas Canada) allowed to take care of other 200 displaced households in the Diocese of Butembo-Beni, beneficiaries were identified into villages below, they are all from Katondi/Vukovi locality(located about 70 Km of Butembo) : Katondi (distribution site), Bikara, Majengo, Kishabeba, Pangoma-Vulera, Vusigha-Mapanda, Vwakere.
These displaced come from West of Lubero as they flee exactions of Rwandan rebel of FDLR. Other come from West-side of Lac Edouard due to the activism of Mai-Mai militiamen. There some tens of households coming from Rutshuru (Ishasha,Kisharo, etc…) due to ongoing presence of M 23rebels.
Each household recieved a kit contained of 3 blankets, 2 tarpaulins,1 net, 2 pots,5 plates,5 cups, 1 soup-ladle,1 knife and 5 spoons, 3 toilet soaps, 2 laundry soap 4, toothpastes and 6 teeth-brush, 2 cottons and 2 plastic buckets Caritas Congo Asbl together with General –Secretariat of Caritas Internationalis to thank all members that carried out assistance in response to this emergency appeal and ecourage other to mimic to respond to AE37 /2012 reviewed in order to relieve Congolese populations facing turmoil in the East of their Country(DRC)
