CAR
Renewed fighting and strengthened presence of armed groups in eastern prefectures of CAR, particularly in Basse-Kotto and Mbomou, have increased insecurity and limited humanitarian access since early 2018.
Fighting also continues in western CAR: repeated cycles of violence since October 2017 in Gamboula sub-prefecture have displaced some 21,700 people within the sub-prefecture, and affected populations in transhumance areas, including Nassole and Dilapoko.
DRC
The security situation continues to deteriorate in Ituri, especially in Djugu. Targeted killing of civilians and kidnapping of boys are major protection concerns.
Insecurity and displacement have disrupted harvests and planting cycles, and food insecurity is likely to deteriorate further. Systematic destruction of houses and basic infrastructure are driving shelter, health and education needs for both IDPs and host populations. Ongoing violence is constraining access to the most affected areas.
Ethiopia
Over 9,000 people have been displaced from Moyale town, Ethiopia to neighbouring Kenya due to increased insecurity since 10 March. Needs include medical treatment, food, water, sanitation facilities and shelter.
The displacement started when a security operation by an army unit in Moyale town, bordering Ethiopia and Kenya, resulted in the deaths of 13 civilians. Twenty others were wounded and 16 reported missing.
