WFP Food distributions have resumed in the course of this week, and are being further scaled up in the coming weeks as the security situation allows.
ECCAS (Economic Community of the Central African States) summit that took place on 18 April, in Ndjamena, has decided to increase FOMAC troops in CAR from 500 to 2,000. The modalities for this increase remain to be determined.
Visiting the region, Jeffrey Feltman, Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, met with CAR authorities as well as the humanitarian community to take stock of the situation. Mr Feltman confirmed that the UN will remain engaged in CAR and highlighted the necessity to restore security, re-establish constitutional order and the rule of law.
Although the disarmament process officially started, serious security incidents and looting continue in Bangui and across the country. The security situation remains uncertain and movements of humanitarian staff are constrained.
