ADRA is a global humanitarian organization of the Seventh-day Adventist Church that demonstrates God’s love and compassion. Today, the organization is responding to the DRC refugee influx in Uganda at the transit center in Bundibugyo. The refugees are fleeing from the fighting between the Congolese government army and the rebels of the Allied Democratic Forces. As of July 14th, the population registered by URCS in Bubandi Sub County was 66,139. So far the transit center has received more than 17,000 refugees. There are still people along the border unwilling to move to the transit centre hoping that the situation will improve and allow them back. They are also sneaking to their farms to look for food.

ADRA has responded by providing water containers, Water purifying tablets, Blankets, Mats, Mosquito nets, sanitary towels, plates, cups and other essential items to 20,000 refugees in Bundibugyo transit center. The project has also supplied and installed five submersible septic tanks and 27 energy saving communal cooking stoves. This is a center where the refugees receive initial humanitarian aid, between one and two months before being transferred to a gazetted settlement area by the Government of Uganda. Currently, the Government of Uganda in collaboration with UNHCR has identified a relocation site in Kyangwali Refugee Settlement in Hoima District of refugees willing to remain in the settlement.
